Mechanized Timber Harvesting
Felling Measures for Beetle Infestations
When large-scale infestations occur that decimate entire forests, harvesters and forwarders are usually deployed to clear these areas. In the process, several hectares of forest are clear-cut to prevent the beetle from spreading further. The rapid harvesting by the harvester, the hauling and stacking by the forwarder, and the quick removal of the stacked timber must all be well coordinated.
However, these clear-cuts are the exception and are subject to penalties under forestry regulations. Only in emergencies do the heavy machines operate over large areas to remove the timber from the site.

Precise and Efficient with LF Harvesting
Repair of Wind-Felled Tree Damage
Windthrow damage is cleared either manually with the aid of chainsaws or using harvesters. Drivers and forest workers must pay particular attention to the tension in the wood piles to avoid potential injuries or damage. The felling process is very similar to that used for a beetle infestation. The entire area is cleared, and the wood must be removed from the forest quickly before secondary organisms can multiply.
